Happy New Year!

At the beginning of January I was busy telling people to lay off the new year resolutions and not to put their bodies through any more additional stress after the festive eating and months of darkness. On my way to taking the children to school today I noticed the first daffodil was in flower and there were buds starting to grow on some of the fruit bushes. Although I noticed the Black Mountains behind our house have a slight covering of snow today, I can feel the change coming. As the seasons start to shift now is the time to look towards the new year. It's a time to consider what we want to leave behind from the year gone and what we want to bring into our lives. There's no rush to do this

The US Human Microbiome Project which was funded last year to the tune of $121 million by the Obama government has the job of mapping and researching the delicate microorganisms that live on and inside us. At the moment the scientists have found the microbial DNA on our body outnumbers human DNA 10:1. That's ten times more microbes than human DNA... These microbes are really the basis of our immune function and intimately communicate with our bodies, even down to the choices we make about the food we eat. Here is a great video I've just found which goes in to this in much more detail and why
