A Birthday Feast

We had a shared birthday feast today - cooked by a good friend - who made the most incredible brunch for 13 of us. Shakshuka, eggs, homemade sheep milk lebeneh, olives, tomatoes, chorizo and her daughter had made the finest spread of fermented vegetables I have ever seen.

The sun was shining, the children played and the adults had time to talk. And talk. And laugh. A lot. It was an all too rare reminder of the nourishment we can get by sharing a meal.

It was reminder of how food is so much more than nutrients and nourishment is more than proteins, fibre and fat.

In our isolated homes we so rarely share food with members of our community. I've been reminded today of how much can be gained by coming together with others around beautiful food.
