The Invisible Universe Of The Human Microbiome
When I tell people in clinic they are more microbe than human I'm sure some people can't believe it. The US Human Microbiome Project which was funded last year to the tune of $121 million by the Obama government has the job of mapping and researching the delicate microorganisms that live on and inside us.
At the moment the scientists have found the microbial DNA on our body outnumbers human DNA 10:1. That's ten times more microbes than human DNA...
These microbes are really the basis of our immune function and intimately communicate with our bodies, even down to the choices we make about the food we eat.
